Membership to the South African Pump Cluster is limited to those companies that manufacture the majority of their product locally.
This follows the aim of promoting local manufacture. The dti’s local content requirements have been used as a guide to the qualifying local content of a manufacturer.
The Cluster hopes to promote the increase in local manufacture of those companies that currently do not qualify for membership.
This can be done through the designation process by the dti. Should any company show that they have capacity to increase local content / manufacture of a product supplied to an SOE, resulting in an increase in employment and transformation, such product can be “designated”, thus putting an obligation on SOEs to purchase such designated product from a local manufacturer.
At the September meeting the Cluster members approved the invitation of associate members joining the Cluster. These would be companies or organisations that have a common goal of promoting Local Manufacture.
Any member joining the Cluster must abide by it’s constitution.
